Jim Gabler's new book about a priest who wants to be the first American pope is full of suspence and action. I read it in one twelve hour sitting. It's a little like Dan Brown's books only without the gimicks. The characters are finely drawn and ruthless as the protagonist is in his quest, one can't resist rooting for him .
I finished James Gabler's God's Devil last night. Bravo! It is a great page turner. I really enjoyed it.

This is a wonderful look at the political machinations of an overly ambitious priest with amoral behavior. It takes us into the back rooms of the Vatican where plotting for power and favors abide. Dan Brown may touch upon the history of the Catholic Church but this gives us a contemporary view into the scheming within. The characters beautifully came to life and I could literally picture them. This would make a great movie too. I didn't want the story to end, but I wasn't disappointed the way it finally did. I highly recommend it. It's a great read!
